The Cyclones moved into 3rd Place past the Chargers with a decisive 4-1 (5.0-1.0 League Points) win today, The Day was highlighted by a long, attritional Pairs Match 4, in which 29 Points consumed 536 Balls in Play (the longest by BIP in the competition so far). 16 points consumed over 10 BIP, 11 consumed over 20 BIP, and 7 consumed over 30. Notable:
The top teams in the League met for the second time today. The result was exactly the same, in the exact same order as their February 15 clash (different match ups, though), with the Warriors taking a 2-0 lead in the first two Singles matches before the Renegades struck back, winning the 3rd Singles and the 2 Pairs matches. So The Renegades now lead the Warriors head to head with 2 matches to 0, and 8 League points to 4. The win put them into the League Lead with a 4-1 Record and 17.5 League Points. The Warriors fell into 2nd place, 3-2 with 17. The match of the Day was the 2nd Singles match between Nicolas(#2) (Warriors) and Aratz(#2) (Renegades), won by Nicolas in 3 sets. They played a little less than 29 minutes and consumed 236 balls in play, with only 14 errors, for a non-error % of .941. Eight of the 30 points consumed more than 10 balls in play, a high number for a singles match. Both players played superb defense, totalling at least 40 excellent saves. The last set featured 8 winners and only 2 errors.
Player of the day was Goixerri (#1 Singles, #2 Pairs) (Renegades). With his team down 2-1, he won the 3rd Singles and 1st Pairs match to turn the tide. He was part a 24-10 blitz in the two matches, finishing the Day with +8(including 1 service ace) -1, at least 15 excellent saves, and, on his only serve intercept in the Pairs match, an immediate kill. Not a bad day at the office, not bad at all.
Etc. With today's report I am adding two features.
1. Video time mark for the beginning of each point, for those who would like to replay some of the better ones, and test out my scoring abilities :) The points are marked in minutes:seconds on the video. So you might have to some simple conversion after the hour mark.
2. I am starting to keep a record of serve intercepts in the Pairs matches. While not nearly as prevalent as in the long court modality, these are good markers for the aggressiveness of the fronts, especially with respect to how often they immediately "influence" the point, by killing--+ (or losing -) it. Serve intercepts that do not end the point will be marked with a "0" in the scoring summary.
