1. JAI ALAI LEAGUE (EREMAN!) JAI ALAI WINTER SERIES 2023-24 (Gernika)

The 2023-2024 Jai Alai League (Ereman!) Season opened with the first League match of the Jai Alai Winter Series (Gernika). This is a Grand Slam Tournament with 8 pairs, 4 in each of 2 groups. It will consist of a single round robin. The top two teams in each division will then square off in the semi finals, Group A #1 v Group B #2 and Group B#1 v Group A#2. The two winners will face each other in the final. The 16 match tournament will be played one match per week, with the groups alternating, each Monday night, with the exception of New Years Eve and the Final, which will be held on Sunday afternoon. All matches will be streamed on delay and then on demand via EITB.

Jai Alai Mondays are back to the relief of fans. This is the 3rd edition of the Eusko Label Winter Series, framed in the “Jai Alai League”, but such expectation has never been seen. More than 1,000 people from all over Euskal Herria are now members of the championship (season tickets). They have obtained the card that is valid for all the days, before even knowing the name of the protagonists. There are still almost two weeks until the competition begins and this number is expected to increase even more. It is the “WINTER SERIES” phenomenon. Thousands and thousands of people will follow each basket-punta day on the fronton, on television (every Monday on ETB 1) or digitally (APP Jai Alai League).
📌Eight pairs and eight colors
Each couple will be identified with a color throughout the championship (red, white, yellow, green, purple, black and brown) and will be divided into two groups of four.

In total there will be 16 days of competition. The first twelve, from the league phase, and the two best couples from each group will qualify for the semifinals (eliminators), from which the finalists will emerge.
Seven new faces at Goiko's farewell
Almost half of the participants (7 out of 16) are new faces: Laduche, Gorka, Goitia, Erik, Ibarluzea and the two who will win the Pro-Am. A thorough renovation that has several reasons: on the one hand, the retirements and injuries of recent months, but also the increasingly fierce competition in the professional basket-point. Of the nine pelotaris who repeat this time, three - Johan, Del Rio and Basque - were new last year. There is already a new generation that is settling in and more and more pelotaris are asking for passage.
The one who will not repeat next year will be Goikoetxea. The Zumaiarra puts an end to his great sporting career in the best possible setting and competition. Goiko and Lekerika already know what it means to win in Gernika. They were proclaimed champions of the summer Grand Slam, five years ago. Now they want to repeat the victory in the Winter Series. Without a doubt, this couple will feel the warmth of the Jai Alai audience very closely.

The competition, in reality, does not begin in Gernika but in the Aitzuri of Zumaia. There are eight couples seeking that long-awaited eighth place: Unai Uranga and the brothers Cosme and Gonzalo Aguirre, from Zumaia; Jokin Arbe and Eñaut Salegi from Markina-Xemein; Mikel Manzisidor, from Mutriku; Ruben Bailo, from Noain; and Urko Lekerikabeaskoa (Leke's younger brother), from Gernika. ⏰Schedules
The Gernika fronton will open its doors every Monday at 6:30 p.m. There are three days that will have different schedules. Urriko (a first match of young and promising players will be scheduled before the main event) and the New Year's Eve matinées and the Grand Final
ETB 1 will broadcast all the matches at 10:30 p.m. on Mondays except New Year's Eve and the final. They will be played on Sunday and will be broadcast live.
