The Championnat d'Europe de Pelota Basque (36 meter Fronton) Senior (Pala Corta--short bat and Paleta Cuero-- leather [hard] paddle), and Under 22 Cesta Punta singles men's and women's Competitions, sponsored by La Union de Federaciones Europeas de Pelota Vasca, Federacion Espanola de Pelota (FEPelota), and Federation Francaise de Pelote Basque, was contested at Fronton Argoulets Toulouse, France (1--Frontons.net) (2--City--Wikipedia) on June 17-18, 2022. 

Four nations participated: Belgium (1 participant from 1 club--men's Cesta Punta); Italy (1 team from one club--Paleta Cuero); France (8 teams--2 in each modality--representing "France") and Spain (8 teams--2 in each modality, representing 7 different Spanish clubs)

Pala/Pala Larga 2018-2019 Season Wrap and Final individual table/rankings.

The 2018-2019 Pala Larga (mostly InnPala) season ended with one Tournament and 4 independent matches. 2 of the independent matches were played as single partidos to 40 points. Because there is so little information about these matches, they have been compiled together in this post. Though InnPala players perform throughout the year, I have decided (perhaps arbitrarily) to "begin" the season with the Liga Kutxabank competition. The 2019-20 LK begins on October 25, 2019. 

Below you will find 4 items.

1. InnPala's final (at present) ranking of its players. This ranking was published on June 16, 2019, and covered the 4 major tournaments (Liga Kutxabank (Pairs), Mundial Individuel, Mundo Parejas (Pairs), and Bizkaia Open (Pairs)). If another ranking comes out before the beginning of the 2019-20 Liga, I will include it below.

2. A final accounting of the match and joko (set) win-loss records for InnPala players from October 26, 2018-October 11, 2019. For a match by match accounting from January 1-October 11 see the Pala Individual Player Win-Loss Table on the right side of the blog. These are for all the matches I have found. I also added in the 2018 Liga match results to get a full accounting of the season. Those matches are available here and here, but they were added in their entirety to the final October 11 calendar year accounting. Please let me know if  I have missed any matches so I can add them.

3. Results and relevant links from the Sopela Tournament (June 27, September 7) and 4 independent matches from September 14 to October 11.

Played before a large crowd in a newly remodeled fronton, N-U were on their way to parity at 2 jokos apiece with an 8-2 lead when G-I struck for 8 consecutive points to finish the match. This was the final match played by InnPala players in the 2018-19 season. The 2019-20 season begins on October 25 with the Liga Kuxtabank pairs competition.

Multiple Modalities--Recent Amateur Results--Iparralde (North Basque)

A busy late Spring and Summer season was recently completed in Iparralde (North Basque). Various championships and individual matches were contested in multiple modalities. Many of these were either streamed live or on demand via Youtube or French TV. We have already covered the a major Jai Alai/Cesta Punta Tournament that coincided with the St. Jean de Luz (Donibane Lohizune) SLAM (champion of champions Tournament), as well was the Grand Chistera Finals of the Grand Semaine (for more on GS see below).

Grand Semaine is an annual festival of Summer championships held at various locations in Iparralde. Most of the competitions are held outdoors. Multiple Modalities--FEPelota Copa de Europa de Clubes--September 7-8

Federacion Espanola de Pelota (FEPelota) recently sponsored The Copa de Europe de Clubes, 4 modalities (Mano Individuel, Mano Parejas (Pairs), Paleta Cuero, and Pala Corta) were contested at Iscar Fronton, Valladolid, Castile and Leon (1) (2) (3) on September 7-8, 2019. LaLiga Sports televised all 8 Semi-Finals and 4 Finals. The videos were then uploaded to the FEPelota Youtube channel for on demand viewing. We have a complete record of the scores of all of these matches, to go along with match stories for the Finals. In this way, you can follow the Tournament as closely as if you were there to see it live. All matches were played on a 36 meter concha.

Sylvain Brefel, recently retired InnPala Zaguero (back), played two matches in succession, the 1st in the back and the 2nd in the front. It was a long day for him. It was a great day for the Spanish Clubs, as they won all 4 championships. The 2 Mano Finals were contested between Spanish Clubs. The French Clubs contested both the Paleta Cuero and Pala Corta Finals and were defeated in both. In all head to head matchups it was  Spain overwhelming France 10-2.

Pala Larga/Pala Corta--Villa de Plentzia Torneo--August 29-31--A Short Return to Tradional Pala

This was a long court (54 meters) Summer Tournament with matches played to 40 points, rather than in jokos (sets). As such it ran counter to most InnPala competitions, which are played on short courts (36-38 meters). And it hearkened back to the days of traditional Pala, when the modality was regularly played on long courts and matches were single partidos to 45 and then 40 points (35 for singles). Since 2011 or 2012 the joko (set) system has been in place. After a short transition period when best of 5 jokos were played to 12 points, the form settled on the 10 point jokos we have today. It is very unfortunate that we have little more than scores for these matches. Below is presented what information I have found. If I find more, I will add it.

The Pala Larga Tournament was accompanied by an amateur Pala Corta (slightly lighter and thinner bat) Tournament featuring a couple of well known names, recently retired from InnPala (see below). 

The story of this tournament, even if only told in scores, is the resurgence of Pablo Hernan "Fusto". After 5 consecutive straight set wins in Lima Peru at the Pan American Games (Paleta Cuero), he has won 2 Pala Larga Tournaments in the last 2 weeks, Asta Nagusia Bilbao (winning 6 jokos and losing 1) and this one. In his last 17 jokos in PC and PL, he has a record of 16-1. In this tournament he and Ibargarai outscored their opponents 80-64. This was Ibargarai's 4th tournament or competition championship in 2019, most of any InnPala professional. Ibai Perez has 3.

Also to be noted, amateur Benat Ibarguren played in his 3rd consecutive competition. He will appear in his 4th in the September 7, 2019 Final of the Sopela Tournament. The semi-finals of that tournament were played in June, with Ibarguren substituting for the injured Ander Landeta. Landeta is still out recovering from wrist surgery.

The InnPala brief story noted that Urrutia had a difficult day at the office, with many service faults, perhaps not too surprising since this is only the 2nd competition played on a long court this year.
