Dania Jai Alai gives copious information about its players in its daily statistics sheets. One of the most important important pieces of information in these sheets is each player's cumulative record in terms of wins and in the money (1st, 2nd, or 3rd place) finishes. Dania provides these statistics sorted by the personal player number, which serves as much to illustrate as to obfuscate what is going on. The purpose of this page is to sort these players out, by:
A. How many games they win
B. Which games they usually play (early or late) and what position they play (front or back)
Here we will keep track of the cumulative "standings" of players in 4 categories, in the following order. Note that I am going to list the players by talent level rather than the chronological time they play. The late players are universally recognized as better, on average, than the early players. So I will list them in the following order
A. Late Fronts
B. Late Backs
C. Early Fronts
D. Early Backs
Note that the barrier between front and back is not a solid one. For various reasons, players will play "out of their time zone." I am not going to keep track of which wins come at which times for players who play both. It would take more time than I care to spend. What I will do is note what direction a player is moving in by noting the position he was in the previous week, in bold for those who move up, in red for those who move down. Hopefully, this will give you another way to look at the almost infinite complexity that is Quiniela Jai Alai. This page is not designed to inform you of who wins with who, Dania provides that information in the game pages it provides.
Those of you who follow this blog know that I love to keep "standings." This is just another attempt at that. I hope you enjoy it.
Corrections about positions are always welcome.
Note that for those of you viewing this page on a mobile phone, landscape mode will look much better. Landscape mode without readerview looks even better, as the standings are in Courier font, and readerview will slightly mess with how pretty they look in straight landscape. :)

Main Nue---Cumulative Monthly Rankings of Esku Pilota Players--May 30-September 30, 2019
Main Nue cumulative ranking of Esku Pilota Players. Esku Pilota publishes a "classement" (ranking) of its roster approximately every month. Ranking is determined by a combination of the importance of a Tournament/Competition and where the player finished in the T/C. The best complete explanation I found was in the Esku Pilota archives.
Ranking explanation (August 9, 2017, the most recent one I could find). Basic points available for Tournament/Competition winner are at the top of the page. Breakdown of other allocated points based on remaining finishers can be found below the actual rankings. The higher ranked T/Ps (Masters and Pro) are usually played by EP's "A" players. The other Tournaments are usually played by EP's "B" players. Often there are overlaps between the players' categories and the Tournaments they are in. Below the classification you will see an early attempt (2017) to keep track of players' actual won-loss records by "A's" and "B's". It was complex and awkward. In its place, I have decided to post a cumulative set of rankings. I have organized them by release date so that you can see how a player is progressing over time. Unfortunately, EP does not, to my knowledge, keep an archive of old rankings at this time. I am beginning in May of 2019, as that is the first set of rankings I discovered when I re-started the blog in January. What is presented is a ranking (1-24 at this time) of EP players for the latest time period. That is lined up against old rankings. The raw number is combined with the ordinal ranking number and will be presented in ascending ordinal order for the latest month. The latest month will be the key sort, so that the ordinal rankings will not be in order for the earlier months, but you will easily be able to see if a player is improving, declining, or "yo-yo-ing" over time. EP's "A" players will usually be at the top of the list because the events they play in are worth more ranking points. Players are identified by position (AV=Avant (front); AR=Arriere (back)). The players with the largest ranking improvements and declines will be identified each month.
Hopefully this will give you some sense of who stands where in the EP constellation over time, without going through the complexities of a cumulative win-loss record table.
For the individual Tournaments that make up this ranking, consult the Main Nue section of the Blog. Tournament results will be available in reverse chronological order. Note that Le Garat Lundi (mostly) 50 point matches are accounted for on a separate page.

In a titanic struggle that lasted over 1 hour and 50 minutes, O-A got up off the floor after an opening 7-0 salvo to equalize at 9. From there the match was closely contested all the way to the finish, with the winners finally establishing and defending a small lead in the last decade. For Amulet, whose home trinquet this match was played on, it was "moving" (Google translate). This was Ospital's 3rd consecutive championship, following Garindein and Mendionde. It was also his 6th consecutive win over all. The streak began on September 13. For O-A, who battled through over 3 1/2 hours of Main Nue (M-D dispatched their Semi-final opponents in about 45 minutes on Friday) within a 48 hour period, it was an exhausting but victorious effort during which they had to deal with the most lethal server in the modality (Waltary) and the best player on the Esku Pilota roster (Ducassou).

In the first Semi-final, I-B were "disunited" (Google translate), according to Ducassou. M-D took advantage of the disarray and lack of communication to build a substantial lead and then "blew the game open" with a 12-0 run late.
In the 2nd Semi-final a 10-2 run in the final decade turned the tide for O-A.

This tournament was contested between 6 teams, 3 in Group A and 3 in Group B. The fomat was a single round robin in both groups. The group winners played a final on September 29.

In one of the most dominant mano performances you'll see, O-R began the match with a 16-0 run, taking all possible drama out of it. Although from that point, A-I outscored them 7-6, this was a match that would have been stopped on a "TKO" (Technical Knock Out) had it been a contest between boxers. Interestingly, even though this match was so one sided, it still had 489 balls in play. One has to wonder if Altuna III, playing his second game in 3 days, and coming in off a match were he had 181 balls in play, simply "ran out of gas" in this match.
Oliazola II finished the tournament +30 -2 and Rezusta finished +10 -4 in 3 matches. In their final 5 Summer Festival matches Oliazola II was +58 -8. Rezusta was +16 -6.
Rezusta was named best player of the tournament.

A-I advanced to the final after an arduous match. They established an early 4 point lead, slowly widened it, and seemed on their way to an easy victory. But then B-M roared back to cut the lead to 1 point before finally succumbing. It wasn't the greatest match from an artistic standpoint (+22 -19), but it was an exciting and tense one. Altuna III carried a tremendous load on offense (181 balls) and lead his team to victory.

O-R broke open a tight match with a 13-0 run to win easily. Ezkurdia had a quiet day, with an uncharacteristic -1 net, while Oliazola II continued his recent great form. The win sent them into their second consecutive final, this time playing together.

O-R began the tournament with an error marred victory. More points were lost than won. Still, it was an grueling and exciting match, Both backs had more than 220 balls in play. A 4 point run gave O-R a lead that they never relinquished. V-Z achieved equality with a 6 point run but then O-R answered with a 6 point run of their own. There were a particularly uncharacteristic number of errors from both fronts.

Main Nue--Partie du Jeudi au Trinquet Berria, Hasparren--July 11-December 6, 2019
What better way to initiate a beautifully remodeled Trinquet Berria than a weekly Main Nue Match? 18 independent "main event" and 4 Lever de Rideau ("curtain raisers" involving amateurs) were held to spotlight the Trinquet. 16 selected matches were video "taped" by Pilota Ttiki. Esku Pilota provided selected match articles.
Mattin Olcomendy played in 8 of these matches, the most of any player. Amateur Louiz Sanchez played in 5. There was 1 "marquee" match", Ospital-Guichandut v Waltary-Ducassou, on August 22 (see below--unfortunately there is little information and no video for that match).
