Campeonato Parejas (Binakako Txapelketa) 1a and Promotion (November 22, 2019--April 5, 2020)
This is the premier professional Mano pairs Championship competition. There are 8 teams. It starts with a double round robin league. The format then changes from previous years. The top two teams go to a Semi-final League. There is a playoff" #3 v #6 and #4 v #5 to determine the other two teams in the Semi-final League (6 post league teams rather than 4). The SF League is a single round robin. The top two SF League finishers play in a Final on April 5, 2020. There is no 3rd place match this year.

Time per point (see below) is calculated from the total time of the match. I can find no source that consistently keeps track of actual playing time for this competition.
I am experimenting with counting "saves," a variable that perhaps gives a bit of insight into the defensive side of BP sports. I define a save as an excellent play that keeps the point alive. It is, obviously, a subjective judgment, and yours may be different from mine. Saves include going on the apron (running or diving), going into the left wall, backs running far into the front court, fronts covering the back, direct off the front wall returns of very high shots, and backs going behind the 10 line, among others. As a subjective experiment in judgment, I hope to get those with much more knowledge than I interested in keeping the statistic. A save is like art. It may be difficult to define, but one "knows it when one sees it." I will also provide the number of saves as a percentage of the total balls in play.

Elezkano II saw his first action in the competition as a substitute for Altuna III, who could not play due to a sore wrist. E-M did not take their first (and only) lead until 19-18, part of a 5 point run that won the match. From equality at 16 until the end, L. Galarza made 6 of his 9 errors. A win would have put A-G in 2nd place with a 6-2 record going into their big match with Table toppers Jaka-Zabaleta next week. The loss dropped them into a 2nd place tie with E-M, who took over 2nd place on goal differential. Just a few points earlier E-G had a 15-10 lead, seemingly headed for an easy victory. They were outscored 12-3 the rest of the way.

In a match dominated by big runs, J-Z got the most important and best at the end of the match, to win by some distance over I-R. It didn't start out that way, I-R won 9 of the 1st 10 points. That was followed by 1 13-2 J-Z run that put them into the lead. I-R cut the lead to 1 but then J-Z went on a 5-0 run to win going away. It was J-Z's 8th win in 9 matches. I-R, who were trying to reach equality in the table, fell to 2 under, and 6th place, the last post-season place.

L-A overcame a 6-15 deficit to outscore their opponents 16-5 in the last half of the match. It was truly a battle of attrition, lasting nearly an hour and 40 minutes. Each player had more than 200 balls in play. At 19-20 Artola missed an easy dejada winner that might have changed the outcome. It was followed by an Imaz error that left L-A 1 point away. But an Artola winner equalized the score. Laso ended the proceedings with a cross court kill shot. A-I suffered their 3rd loss in the last 4 games. 2 of them have been by a total of 3 points. The win was by 2 points.
